Missy Raines and the New Hip
Thursday,  January 26, 7pm
Tickets:  $10 adv/$12 day of show
Food Truck:  The Traveling Kitchen

Missy Raines is the most decorated bass player in the history of the International Bluegrass Music Association - with 7 Bass Player of the Year Awards to her credit. A former member of the Grammy Nominated Claire Lynch Band and the acclaimed duo Jim Hurst and Missy Raines, Missy is one of the most popular figures in the bluegrass community and a trailblazer in her field for as long as she’s been playing music. Along with her band, The New Hip (Dillon Hodges guitars, Ethan Ballinger mandolin, mandola, and Michael Witcher resophonic guitar, lap steel, vocals), Raines brings together jazz, bluegrass, pop and funk forms to push the bounds of bluegrass and secure her place as one of the most innovative musicians in the business.
“The New Hip, along with bands such as the Avetts and Churchill, add their brilliance to the swiftly growing collection of Newgrass artists that have brought southern music to the mainstream.  – Deep South Magazine

YARN
Friday, January 27, 8pm
Tickets:  $10 adv/$15 day of show
Food Truck:  Ri Quissimo
Playing passionate but heartfelt bluegrass-influenced music with a gentle spirit but a rock & roll heart, Yarn are a band led by vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Blake Christiana.  Based in Brooklyn, Yarn’s Americana/Alt-Country sound owes as much to Gram Parsons and Earl Scruggs as to Jerry Garcia and Exile On Main Street-era Rolling Stones. Much like its name, the band Yarn weaves country, rock, blues and more into a genre-defying blend that has captured the attention of fans and critics alike. Following in a fine tradition that includes forward thinking roots bands like The Flying Burrito Brothers and New Riders of The Purple Sage. Yarn weaves roots music idioms into a fresh sound that turns on hipsters and fans of country music alike, with technically impressive song-crafting and universal tales from the road of life.

Claudia Schmidt
Saturday, January 28, 8pm
Tickets:  $12 adv/$15 day of show
Food Truck: DaVinci's Coffee & Gelato
To say that Schmidt is simply a performer with a talent to entertain would be a miscarriage of understatement. Schmidt takes her audiences into her world as easily as the child who discovers the endless universes that exist in a cardboard box.   She's widely known as a singer/songwriter of folk and blues, an accomplished performer on 12-string guitar and mountain dulcimer, and a regular during the early years of Prairie Home Companion. Describing herself as a "creative noisemaker," Claudia Schmidt has released more than a dozen recordings (including 5 on the Red House label) and has appeared on the stages of concert halls, small clubs, and folk festivals. In recent years, she has explored a long-time bent toward jazz, most notably with the release of Live at the Dakota (2006).

Local singer/songwriter Rick Hardeman will open the show.

(Note:  All shows will be held at the Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center, 525 Kumquat Court.  Advance tickets are available at www.wslr.org or by calling 941-894-6469.
